how do I stop stuff in WinXP that loads when I start my pc

I have stuff that runs in the background that I dont want running.

goto Start, Run, type MSCONFIG and remove any progs you don't want to start up during bootup......hope that helps

Thank you I thought WinXP did not have msconfig, I guess i should of tried.:D

yeah, they left it out w/ win2k.....brought it back from the dead w/ winXP :p

there was an article somewhere that talked about disabling a lot of WinXP's bloat that runs in the background.....forgot where it is, though.

[*]msconfig from win 98 worked in 2K
[*]system properties, performance/settings, look under visual effects.

Damn...dakata beat me to it: I was also going to recommend Startup Control Panel. Use that rather than MSConfig since if you use MSConfig, you'll get an annoying warning when you startup, and you can actually delete stuff from starting up with SCP as opposed to just disabling it.
