I can't get through the day just drinking water, i need soda damnit!! But then the easiest way to lose weight is to stop drinking soft drinks.

Coke Zero?

Just stop. I did. Getting over soda is pathetic compared to what other people need to do. I used to drink it every day all the time. I quit for almost 6-months and lost quite a few pounds.

Putting them back on though. :) Thanks McDonald.

a)Realize that soda really doesn't taste that great
b)Drink juice or water instead.

Your best chance for success:
Trade it for another addiction... every thought about takin' up smoking? Drinking? (j/k)

It wasn't hard for me to stop. First i cut out all carbonated soda and switched to hi-c and other fruit juice. I didn't miss soda at all since i was getting another sweet drink instead. Then i just found myself drinking less and less juice and more water. So my advice is to try an intermediate step.

Don't go cold turkey. Start drinking more and more water and you'll realize that pop is bad for you and you'll start cutting back. Also, I find that when I started drinking diet pop I wasn't craving regular pop as much anymore. Maybe it's just not as tasty as even Coke Zero still does not taste like Coke!

Try flavored, carbonated water. Its slightly sweet, and carbonated, but virtually no calories. Then just start drinking water when you realize how much you waste on buying water!

I use to think the same thing. I couldnt drink water at dinner cause it was just too bland and didnt taste very good. Really the only thing that is going to make you stop is determination. Just start drinking water on a regular basis and you will realize that it actually the most refreshing drink you can have and that it goes fine with any meal. Soon after that you will realize that soda is just water with sugar syrup added to it and if you are like me, will lose all interest in it because it adds calories, large amounts of sugar, and does not quench your thirst. Something that might help as well is just drinking orange juice or something else sweet like that. I only drink Water, Beer, and Orange Juice now a days.

Orange juice has just as much sugar as soda does...anyone know if its any better for you though?

I stopped 6 months ago, I've lost 30 pounds since (combined with a better overall diet + excercise). now soda actually makes me feel a little sick. the key for me was finding a botted water brand that didn't taste bad. also powerade works as an intermediate step. Also i would suggest skipping diet drinks as they are seriously discusting and always remind you of the real thing. also drink as much water as you can with meals (somehow water is less dissatisfying when eating good tasting food))

Find something else to drink. Retrain your palate to like things that aren't so sweet, like sparkling mineral water, unsweetened (no artificial sweeteners in them either) fruit water, etc. You'll find pop less attractive when you aren't used to the sweetness or flavor anymore.

here's what i did (stopped drinking soda since the summer of '94, though i may have a bit of a mixer once in awhile):
-started ordering flavored iced tea instead of soda
-drank more juice
-started ordering unsweetened iced tea
-drank more water

I just stopped. Not saying you won't want one every so often, but between water, fruit juice, sport drinks, etc you should have enough choices.

Juice and sport drinks have alot of sugar as well so that's not really an improvement but might be a good intermediate step. I've just gotten used to water though I do drink Propel pretty often. Odds are the sugar substitute in it will probably give me cancer one day but ahh well, at least I tried.

Drink diet coke it tastes like crap. Once you figure that it soda won't be so appealing. Or drink coke while you eat something you hate so maybe you'll associate it.
