How do I solder a basic joint?

I have an alarm clock that I need to run off battery, but the battery clip is bent (9v), and thus I need to solder a new one on. I have my dad's soldering iron and solder, but I don't know how to solder it. What do I do?

It's a very basic joint.

Wire-to-wire, or wire-to-pad (on a circuit board)?

The general idea is to apply heat to the point, apply solder (make sure it flows on both surfaces), remove heat.

Heat up the soldering iron.....then place the solder end at the point where u want it...then apply the soldering iron and it'll melt...put as much as u need and let it cool down and harden.

Just lick the edges of the paper..

try to use the iron to heat up the actual wire, so that the wire melts the solder, that way it will stick.
