Hello all,

I know a little bit of networking theory, but have very little hands on experience. Both computer have access to the internet, but I am unable to access either computer from the other.

When I go to Network Connections folder on the WinXP system, I see three entries:

Network Bridge (IP 192.168.1.101, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1)
Local Area Connection (n/a)
1394 Connection (n/a) is this firewire???

Both computers belong to the same workgroup (XMEN) but have different names (MAGNETO/JUGGERNAUT)
The router is set up as a DHCP server

I'm not sure what to do from here. I made a network setup disk via the WinXP network configuration wizard, but it does not work on the Win98SE system.

Also, if the 1394 connection is a firewire, why would it be bridged to the Ethernet adapter? Did WinXP bridge the wrong adapters? If so, how do I fix or change to get WinXP to see the other system on the LAN?

Thanks!!!

i always like to try this.

goto one computer and...

goto start>run and type "\\192.168.3.XXX" where XXX is the ip of the other machine.
and see if this pulls up the shared folders of the other computer.

as for the bridgeing part with the firewire and ethernet i would suggest to un-bridge it. Thats how mine is set up.

Can you "see" the other computer under networking? Is sharing turned on both computers?

Just some thoughts.

Well, I finally got it to work about 4am this morning...

I think part of my problem was Norton Internet Security... I went in and put the IP for the Win98 machine in the 'trusted' folder, and then after that, I was able to run the Network Setup disk on the Win98 machine and it finally detected the other computer...

After that, I figured out how to share and map network drives, so I guess its all done...

The only thing now I haven't figured out is how to get access to the scanner functions of my printer from the remote machine. I can print fine, but it will not detect the scanner over the network (maybe the program does not support it?)
