Hi, I'm trying to get a couple computers here at the office to share a folder and i must not be doing something right. There are 4 computers. 1 computer has the folder that I wanna share between the 4. On one computer, the folder can be seen if i go into "Network Places" and then "windows network" and then i see the workgroup, the computer and then the folder. On the other two computers, i can only get as far as the workgroup. I can't see any computers from there on so I can't access the folder. I'm fairly new to this so i was wondering if anyone can help me out a little. Thanks a bunch!

Depends on the OS you are using.

Sharing with WinNT4/2k/XP, make sure there are accounts for each of the
computers use wish to have access on the computer with the Shared
Folder and that Permissions are set. Also, they must be in the same Workgroup (which you have done).

Sharing with Win9x/ME only, Print & File Sharing is all that is required with Permissions
set on the Shared Folder and that they are in the same Workgroup.

Sorry i didn't provide the previous info.

All three comps are running Win2K Pro. There are no restrictions on the sharing folder, and all three computers are under the same subnet. i don't have as much experience with PC's so is there a way where I can just connect to a computer through an IP or some other way? Thanks a lot!

Did you Create Accounts for each the 3 computers on the
computer with the Shared Folder?

Are you using a HUB, Switch, or Router?
Are you sharing a Internet Connection on this Network?

You can also try mapping the Share to each of the other computers.
(Win Explorer\ Tools \ Map Network Drive)

Quick answer: SNEAKER-NET!!! ;)

Seriously though, the answer is that you need to share the folder. Right click the folder in question and select sharing. Create a share name, and then the other PCs will simply need the PC name. Map a network drive (or find it in Network Neighborhood) and locate the share. This should be all you need.

everything you said is done. mapping the network drive doesn't show the computer or the folder...

Okay.

Let's start with the basics.

Do you have the following installed?
To check:
right-click My Network Places on the desktop
click Properties
right-click Local Area Connection
click Properties

Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Install any of the 3 that are not installed. Check all 4 machines.
