I have a chessey 32in TV, w/ no av or extra speaker inputs..

is there a way to hook up the speakers directly to the Xbox??

I remember I could hook up my speakers to my VGA adapter for my DC...

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

well you need either the Advanced A/V pack or the High Definition A/V pack and a Dolby Digital Receiver or a 5.1 system with a Dolby Digital decoder.
Both packs come with an optical output that you hook into your receiver/decoder.

Thats the only way to do it, there's no way to hook it straight up to speakers. You need either a decoder or receiver inbetween. I believe some powered computer speaker systems that have an optical input can also do it.

I've got mine hooked up to my Denon receiver with my floor-standing Acoustic Research speakers...its well worth it. Halo in 5.1 is literally amazing.

I guess for AC3 audio all you really need is the advanced AV pack and a basic Dolby Digital receiver with 5 speakers. You can get the receiver and speakers in packages starting as low as $199 (though expect to spend $299 for a halfway decent Sony or Pioneer package.)

BTW: Halo is only in 4.1--actually I think there was a bug in the SDK where all the launch titles are stuck with 4.1 and not 5.1 (center channel ain't really used?) Fear not, upcoming titles have corrected this!

Hi, im digging this one up from the dead but anyways. I just got an Advanced A/V pack myself and i have the s-video and the toslink/optilcal cable hooked up as well. The only problem is that i can only select Dolby Pro-Logic not Digital. I read above that there was a bug in all the first Xbox games and they are only 4.1, is this the reason for me only being able to select pro-logic?

Yesterday, we hooked my friends xbox up to his 5.1 stereo, with just the regular composite left and right. The aiwa stereo was able to "emulate" a center channel and rear left and right. The interesting thing was, all the channels were distinctly different:confused:
