How do I setup a Remote Assitance service?

Maybe not the most proper place, but I know a lot of IT people here can help me. =)

The Windows Remote Assitance service has a lot of issues working if anyone has a router / firewall at their house in my opinion.

I know that Geeksquad / Firedog offer services where they give you a program to run that allows authorized techs to remotely access their computer, how could I set something like this up?

Just curious how they do it!

There are web-based apps like logmein, WebEx, etc. or you could try a host/guest setup like VNC or a variant thereof.

I use VNC and remotely control my computer through a Java plugin.

UltraVNC Single Click is awesome too - but YOU have to open ports in your router - client can have everything closed.
