How do I set up a SATA drive as my main drive?

Hi, recently my IDE drive started rebooting itself in windows, so I decided it's time to get a new drive. My main question is how do I set up a SATA drive as my main and only drive? I'm a bit confused on how to do it since windows doesn't detect SATA drives automatically.

PS. I did do a search.

For mine, all I had to do was enable sata as the second boot device in bios (floppy is first). The only tricky thing for me, was that "sata" wasn't an option, had to select "scsi" as the boot device for it to be found. No problems after that. Just make sure to NOT have your old IDE drive hooked up when you first try.
