How do I set network user permissions in XP???

I went to properties, but all it asks is if I want to share it, nothing else... no user permissions, etc. Please help. Thanks.

go to control panel...admin tools....computer management. Local users and groups must be set up for the user you want to use the shared folder.... Note that you must create a new user with the same name in XP users like 2000 did. That is the only way for someone else to access the drive.

I'd noticed this when first attempting to share folders; I went into Folder Options (in Control Panel) and un-checked Simple File Sharing. Hey presto, accounts, permissions, etc etc.

Regards,

Jonty.

Thanks Jonty, worked like a charm. How come XP set up this way for me, but set up the way I wanted on my friend's machine?
