How do I send user specific messages over a LAN?

Hello all,

I just got finished networking 4 computers at home through a router. We have 3 workstations and 1 file server. I was wondering if there is a native program in windows that will allow me to send a message to the other three computers on our network. Sometimes I'm just too lazy to talk to my family, and I'd rather hide behind the impersonality of computers. Also, I know AIM and MS Messenger are viable solutions, but I'd rather a different way if possible.
