Ok I have to send out a Money Order this week. Is this what I do?

I go to the Post Office.
I pay them $xx.xx amount of dollars.
They give me a money order sheet.
On the money order sheet, I put my name, address, etc. and the receiver's name, address, etc.
I give them the money order sheet.

That's it?

basically... they charge you a little for the MO. and only the person who the MO is made out to can cash it. Kind of like a guaranteed-to-be-valid check. You can send it through the mail wrapped in a piece of paper (makes it look like a letter). Costs $.37 to mail, and its worthless to anyone if they steal it. You can also track it if it gets cashed, or cancel it if the person doesnt get it.

Cool. Is the process that I described in my original post, correct?

If you have access to a credit union, MO's or better yet Bank Checks, are free.

A bank is the most expensive place to get a MO. It can cost up to $6.00 over there. I buy them at the Post office, CVS or Quick Check. I'm sure you can get one at your local pharmacy or convenience shop.

I think it's about 90 cents per MO around here(at the post office). Banks will charge you a lot more.

So a USPS Money order is 37 cents?
No, that's for the stamp. :p
Last I checked, it's $0.90 for a USPS money order when purchased at the post office. This should be the same everywhere in the US, right?

You can get money orders almost anywhere.. 711, grocery stores... Usually about a buck, banks charge a lot more ($4 up to $6.. why!?). It looks like a check, you send it in the mail or whatever, writing the person's name on the check guarantees that they can only cash it. You can track it by the receipt you get from the place you buy the money order from.

What's the difference between a CC and a MO?
