i'm looking for the discrete (you have no clue that i'm using your internet)... i know the risk. but honestly, if they find out, they're not the kind of people that would try and sue me.

First, that's just messed up. Refer to BuisyBizz's post.

If you really need more help, here: Put an 802.11b or 802.11g card in your machine. If you can get a signal from the neighbors' hardware, it isn't A.
 
I just wrote a reply that spelled out what you need to know. But then it hit me... I wouldn't want some neighbor kid leeching MP3's and movies, playing games or looking at network shares over MY Net connection, which then makes ME look like the criminal. Just because your neighbors aren't savvy enough to lock down their Wi-Fi devices doesn't mean it's okay for you to just jump into their network. If you can't ask permission to use it, then you shouldn't use it.
