How do I see what type of wireless connection I'm using?

i have a laptop with a wireless card. it's a/g. ok. i get a connection at my friends house (long story) but i don't know if it's a or g. how do i tell?

The wireless utility you use might tell you. You could also ask your friend what type of router he has. Or go look at it.

Out of curiosity, why does it matter? :p

well i sorta wanna use his internet...and he doesn't care. i also get other connections besides his but they aren't as strong :\. i just wanted to know if they (including my friend) use a or g bc then i will buya wireless card for my desktop. my regular cable has all this security stuff that got put on it and my parents think that changing anything at all means breaking it...

I do not know why, but when I use A the WAP makes a noise like aaaaa.......

When I use b it sound like Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

When I use g it sound like Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

yea i found netstumbler.org 2 seconds after i posted...there's no delete button on these forums.

but can you tell me how to see what frequency i'm on? i googled but i didn't really know what to type in so i got 100000000000 nonrelated results...

i asked him. he's got g...but i still want to know what my neighbors use.

and yea he knows nothing about computers, especially since all i had to do was "search for available wireless networks" to find his connection ;)
