How do I save e-mails?

I want to reformat, and install Win98. The only thing I need to save, are all of my e-mails, that include fleabay, paypal, multiwave, and other company transactions.

When I reformat...and install Win98, is there anything I ahve to do to make it stable? It has been completely unstable for me, but I want to give it another go, as I will be getting a new power supply, and I thought that was why I crashed so much last time

yeah install beOS or linux 😛

if you are using outlook save your *.pst files those are your emails.

if you system is really suck then you will need to reinstall, check that all your drivers are upto date and that you have back ups.

dam(back it up that ass)

"If using a REAL eMail program, Eudora"

wtf is this crap about Eudora being a "real email program"? Outlook Express is an excellent program, there's no reason to be so lame.

If you're using Outlook Express, save all .dbx files.....do a search on your computer, I'm too lazy to tell you where they are

.dbx, or .pst?

Hmm...both? I like Outlook Express too. Coming from 6 months of AOL, it was a welcome beginning to internet freedom. AOL SUCKS! Ahem, AOL is suck.

Outlook Express is a good program, when it works. I can't open mine, illegal operation every time.

I don't dare use Nutscrape, so I simply use my webmail with UnrealPC. Thank-you UnrealPC 🙂

OE is great if you want to be susceptible to every other virus out there.

Been using Eudora Light 3.0 for 3 years now. Don't see a reason to change. When I reformat, I just save my whole Eudora directory; it doesn't even need to be reinstalled.

<< OE is great if you want to be susceptible to every other virus out there. >>

Or don't open strange attachments. Never had a problem here.

I use OE, and I've never had a problem with it. Does what I need it to, and I can't remember the last time it crashed. I tried downloading Eudora Pro, but I didn't like the interface.

To back up your email, do a search for *.dbx and save them all. Reinstall everything, seach for them again, and copy your old ones over the new ones.

Russ........

First of all, I've been using email and internet for 2+ years now.

OE has all the features I need.

Another example would be mIRC....been using it for 1½ years now, but I still don't have need for BitchX, scripts or anything besides a few popups (very basic scripts).

Why do you think you need very advanced stuff when you get used to a new worlds?

and if you say OE is for neophytes (*dang* had to get a dictionary there, I'm not English 😉), please explain to me why Eudora is superior. Heck, I might switch when I'm formatting soon, so tell me what's so good about it please.

I've been using Eudora for a long time too - I still have all my emails from 1996. In fact, I save all my .TOC and .MBX and my nndbase.txt files. 😀

rambler not true man, if you keep up to date, and practice safe computing, you SHOULD be alright. i have been using outlook both express and 2000 for a while now, with no problems, its those damn users at work, who are finger happy and love clicking on "love letters" and "jokes", its those people that should stick with some basic all txt based program so they cant receive any forwards or attachments.

Assuming Windows is on your C drive, they are here:
C:\windows\application data\identities\(folder with number\microsoft\outlook express. (Usually).

The easiest way to back them up, rather than search is to just go to the folder, select them all and copy them to another disk, floppy or other removable storage media. 🙂

Why does Eudora FAQ site say to backup the *whole* Eudora directory? I used to just do the TOC and mbx, but found that it won't set up the folders within Eudora correctly. They turn into 8.3 names. So now I do the whole directory. Any ideas on why I need the whole dir?
