How do i run Far Cry with HDR on?

Hi, okay well i have a X1800XL and i can play the game fine.

Now i just want to see what dif grafix wise does HDR do to Far Cry.

I typed this in but nothing happened.

\r_hdrrendering X

where X is between 1 and 11.

Did i do somthing wrong?
I don't understand my grafix looks the same so... i don't know, any idea what i did wrong?

you need the 1.3 patch or later i think

according to that then all you must type in the drop down console, or infact i think you can add it to the end of the .exe like you do with custom resolutions,

One of the graphics settings ("lighting quality" or something) also needs to be set to the maximum level in order for HDR to work.

I use a setting of 2, which seems to have significantly better performance than the others for some reason.

An x1800xl should be able to run Farcry at max settings no problem. If anything, you may want to try the 1.4 beta patch that allows you to run HDR with AA.

Wait so when i need to run HDR with the 1.33 patch i need to turn off AA to "0"?

If that is so then must i also alter AF?

"munky" i won't install that 1.4 beta patch just yet i just want to see what it would be like.

Okay I'm going to try the following settings.

AA-off
AF-max

And see if that make a diff.

Also are you sure i can run Far Cry at max?

Cause right now I'm runing it at 1024*768.

Most likely... I played FarCry all the way through on an FX 5900 @ 1024x768 two years ago...

do you even know what hdr is ?

when you go outside in the training mission, do you notice its really bright then it gets more used to it ? when u move your view around quickly you should notice lighting intensity changes

Get the latest patch (1.4 beta). JUST DO IT!

Then, go and set up all your settings in the options (basically set everything to max). I beleive you can access the consol at the main menu, do that and then type \r_hdrrendering 7.

7 is right in the middle and is generally (not everyone likes it) seems the best looking. Although some of them look similar.

If it doesn't work your doing something wrong. Reinstall Farcry if it still doesn't work. And then if it still doesn't work, bang your head on the keyboard, then try using updated drivers (6.4) or even try the XG War Cat 6.3's (latest at this time).

Now, if you have done all that and it still doesn't work....It might be time to throw the computer out the window.

Only one thing at night if i look at the Moon the screen gets brighter and brighter (slowly)until I can't see any thing but if i look away to the ground it slowly comes right is this normal?

Also how do i check what my fps are?

I think the setting will stay. You could test that easily but enabling and restarting the game . But, I think you can add it to your shortcut like Bin32\Farcry.exe -hdr_rendering 7 but im not sure how that works exactly.

As for the lighting, thats just how Farcry's HDR works. Everyone's looks like that. I think it has to do with how it handles the differance between lights and darks, and when you look at the black sky it overbrightens everything else. I think it looks cool but it's personal preference. You could turn it off for night maps if you don't like it.
