how do I run a test to rate my chip

I am looking to find out how many frames per second I can get on Quake...

This is a lame question, I know, but I never bothered to see what it was like until my processor hit 950!!!

I would like to know if I should just take it down to say 800 and save the heat...hehe

if you are talking about how to find out the fps in Q3A, do this

run Q3A
open console (press the "`" button)
type "timedemo 1" without the quote
type "demo demo001" without the quote
when it is done, open up console again
you will see the fps, and you can judge is that's what you want.
