I need to get 5-10 seconds of dialouge from a Divx into a mp3. Does anyone here know how I would do that and what programs I need?

A program called VirtualDub does all kinds of neat stuff with videos and audio. Not sure if its EXACTLY what you're looking for, but I ripped the audio out of some DIVX episodes of Sealab 2021 and encoded them to mp3 using AudioCatalyst. Check Afterdawn forums, TONS of help there for any kind of video/audio conversion questions. Afterdawn forums

Hope that helps a little. Sorry no link for VDub. :(

Another good place to go is VCDHelp. They have a lot of step by step tutorials, as well as links to VirtualDub and other programs that might be of use.

yes, use virtualdub... open the avi, then go to the file menu, and save audio as .wav... then edit the .wav using your favorite program and encode it.
