How do I respectfully reply to this e-mail?

Dear Maurice - It seems that everytime you do something with my computer, I have major problems with the IP address - and I can't go online on my Mac. I just spent ONE HOUR on the phone with linksys, and I am so frustrated, not to mention I don't jave time to deal with this.

The problem began the day you did something with the IP adress for Quickbooks. Can you please help me fix this?

Thanks

What I actually did: VNC'd into her Dell laptop NOT her MAC. Actually, she initiated an outbound connection to my IP address since she is behind the router. I then pointed QuickBooks to the correct .QBW file since there was some ambiguity about that on her end. I then closed the remote session.

So now she's having a problem with her MAC which I did not touch, and is throwing the blame my way.

How would you artfully handle this situation? As far as importance goes, she's an employee for a major client I work with, but she's universally disliked and so I can get into a pissing contest if I so choose, without any repercussions.

Update 1 -

I spoke with the # 2 person at the company who calmed me down, and told me to let it go since this woman basically went too far with her unprofessionalism and CC'd that to the big boss... Not good.

Update 2 -

The company president was CC'd on the original e-mail. She just wrote back to me via BlackBerry:

Hi my friend; so sorry about the rudest email. I want to make sure ou are ok. Perhaps it is better if ***** has to go through ***** or I so you don't have to deal with unprofessional behavior!!please let me know if you are ok.and know that you are awesome and I was as shocked and disgusted as you must have been when I was ccd on it.... Best: *****

Dear Mrs. Bitch,

Please note I did not work on your Mac, but your Dell laptop. Kindly fsck off.

Love and kisses,

Awesome, you have just flipped my mood around to normal again. Thank you! All is clear now...

Just politely sum up what you actually did, but maybe dumb it down to a 3rd grade level, she seems like she needs it.

Dear ****,

From the unrelated issue that I worked on yesterday on your Dell laptop, I am unsure as to where the problem occurred in connection with your Mac. Since I was working on Quickbooks, I resolved a fatal issue on the Dell laptop, but did not touch your Mac. If you are having problems with your Mac, I will be more than happy to resolve that issue as well. I understand your frustration since I must deal with many computer related issues. Thank you for your patience.

If you can give me the IP address to your Mac, so that I can log on to your Mac, I will be more than happy to work on the issue. Have a nice day.

Maurice

Remember to CC your boss, and possibly her boss (this is dependant on your status at the company don't butt heads with anyone higher than you) with your reply and the original message. 🙂

Hope that helps

Mind you, if she had simply come to me for help, I would be all over it. Even though I don't touch Mac's professionally, I'd still put in my best efforts.

But it's the accusatory tone how everytime I work on her PC, she has troubles. Man, it's the first I'm hearing of these post-service issues.

The irony is, she CC'd the e-mail to the president of the company. Bad move, since the president loves and adores me.

On the money, my friend. I'm actually writing something very similar. I'd love to hear how she explains what a non-networked QuickBooks and an IP address have anything to do with one another.

Reply with the CC explaining you never touched her MAC and only worked on her Dell laptop. Then say you'd be happy to have a look, but that MACs aren't really your area of expertise. That ought to make her look like an idiot while not making you look bad.

She's great. But she's not my president - I consult for the company.

Did you catch the part about the message being sent from a BlackBerry?

How exactly did you get her VNC to establish an outbound connection so that you could remote in?
