How do i replace the Win98 startup screen.

I'm tired of seeing the clouds. How do I replace the Win98n startup screen with somethine else?

there should be a file in the windows or root directory called logo.sys or logo.bmp just take whatever file you want to be your new screen make it a bmp file then save it as that... you might want to back up your old file just in case.... (btw its been a long while since i have done this, so if im wrong im sorry!)

Well, in Win95 you could just replace a few .sys files in the windows directory (really they are bitmap files) with bitmaps of the same shape and file size.

They need to be 320x400 in size and 256 colors. File size should be 129,078 bytes.

I looked through the Win98 SE machine that I'm working on here at work and found logos.sys and logow.sys. Logow is the shuting down screen and logos is the one that tells you to shut off the computer (a rare site these days with mobos that will shut off automatically)

I can't find the startup screen. Anyone know how to change it in 98?

I believe u can go to start/run/notepad C:\msdos.sys and under the options header add:

Logo=0
DrvSpace=0
DblSpace=0
DisableLog=1

This will provide a faster boot and eliminate the windows cloud boot part all together.

I believe I got this tidbit from by favorite tweak site tweak3d

I have wind98se and this might be os dependent.

I don't have a logo.sys!! I looked in the root dir and windows subdir
My view options are set to view hidden adn system files.
I have the other 2 shutdown screens (logow.sys and logos.sys)
I have a logo.wbm, but can't open it.

Those are the right files. rename them to .old or something, create the bmp's you want (using the size and bit depth limitations stated above), and rename them to the same name as the old files.

Take a 640x400, 256-color bmp image, compress it to 320x400, and save as C:\logo.sys.

Similar process for shutdown screens, except they reside in C:\WINDOWS.
