How do I replace the My Computer icon in 98se?

When I right click on it, the properties option gives my the system profile, not like normal folders which would let me replace the icon in properties. So how do I replace it?

What happened was, I installed a dumb program that let me use the XP icons. After I uninstalled it, the icon reverted to the windows default icon (just the windows symbol) and not even the old computer icon. I just want the normal "my computer" icon back.

Hmm... this could work, and is worth a try.

2 trys:

1, get Tweak UI and repair icons.

2, Download Icon packager here and use the restore defaults option.

BTW, you shouldnt use XP icons on 98 or ME (or even 2K). They dont support alpha blending for the icons.

There is a sure way to fix it, but I'm not gona post it here (it involves warez sh!t).

What OS are you using btw.

Thanx. im just a bit surprised that I would have to dl and install a program to get back the icon that win98 usually displays for My Computer.

You could do it through the registry, but I dont know how to. 🙂

If this was anyother file, it'd be easy.

Right click on your Desktop > Properties. This should give you the Display Properties dialog.

Select the "Effects" tab, you can change the My Computer icon from that properties screen or you can reset to the default. If you want to change the icon, a couple common Windows icon files are:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHELL32.DLL

C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\COOL.DLL

I was begining to wonder if anyone had posted the simple way. 😉
