Ok, so I have a radeon 8500 128 video card and I have to keep using it for a bit. Currently the fan on the heatsink is frozen stuck. Should I pry it off and replace it with just a new heatsink?

Suggestions please

Thats a pretty old card. It seems silly to buy a new heatsink for that, when you can upgrade to a 9200 for $35. Maybe buy a used vid card of FS/FT.

I didnt realize it was that nice of a card. Im still not sure I'd pay $30 for a cooler for that.

I would say remove the 4 small screws at the corners and twist to remove heatsink.

DISCLAIMER: No personal experience with removing older Rad heatsinks.

If you're running games on that machine, definitely get a new video card.

If not, might want to try to mod an old Socket A heatsink on there with wire or zipties.

EDIT:

I love seeing what you can do to old video cards.

I've been able to play any game i want to so far with the radeon 8500 but I just built a new PC. So the old PC is getting sold to my brother in law. Since he makes my life difficult he is getting a fixed radeon vs a new card if I can help it.
