How do I remove Windows ME without reformating?

I have a computer that WinME was installed on, however, it was not installed with the option to return to previous OS and I want to put Win2k on it. I can't goto Add/Remove Programs and fix this. I have tried installing Win2k from ME, doesnt work, I've tried installing 98SE from ME, doesnt work. I have used a startup disk and the computer locks up before it starts installing Win98SE, and as you know, Win2k wont install from DOS. I have renamed win.com and it still started up normal. Maybe Microsoft hides win.com in another file, like they do logo.sys so if u delete it, it'll get logo from io.sys. If anybody could help me with this or knows anything of what I should do, without reformating, please help me!
 
Win2k doesn't install from DOS? I wasn't aware of this. Using a 98 or WinME bootable floppy, try and see if this works.

Just make the 2k bootable floppies (in the i386 folder, type in winnt /? for the specific switch to make bootable floppies).
 
Win2k set-up starts from DOS , I personally done this few times ... try booting via Win2k CD , or boot via Win98 CD and thru it u would be able to get to command prompt (fscking ME disables dos 🙁

get the boot discs for win2000(the first link that says NT 4/5, start up on that and install.

better yet, download and create a win98 boot floppy, start up on that, delete the windows folder that's on the C: drive, restart with the win2000 boot floppies and install from the cd.

Thanks guys, heres what I did, I put the hard drive in a faster computer and ran the setup for 98 from the startup disk and it did fine, thanks for all the help!
 
BTW Win2k installs in/from DOS by going into the I386 folder and typing winnt.(incase you can't boot from the CDRom and don't have any version of windows installed)
