How do I remove my router?

So I got a Trendnet TEW-432BRP (on sale for $2). And after awhile, I realized that the router was pointless, since I only had 1 computer anyways, and when I get more I should use a better router anyways. I did use it occasionally to go wifi with my DS, but I hardly play anymore. So here's my problem: When I try to remove the router and plug the modem directly to my computer, it just won't connect. Soooo...any help?

Have you tried resetting your modem after unplugging the router?

Heres what I would do. Turn off your computer. Turn off the modem and router, and unplug all the ethernet cables from them. Then turn on the modem and give it a minute or so to boot up and obtain an IP address from you ISP. Next plug the ethernet cable from the modem into the computer. Then turn on your computer and you should be good to go.

There is usually a little spot on the back of the rotuer, labelled "reset" it is a button, find a way to push the button and push it. Next option, call your ISP.

Any other suggestions?

Check your cabling, make sure it's pluggin in correctly.

Are you attaching the modem to the PC with Cat5 or USB?

Call you ISP and request a connection reset. Sometimes they will attach the first MAC address it sees with an IP to make it tougher to add a router later.

Also, Routers by nature give an extra level of security. Google NAT for explanation.

my isp used to supply webstar modems and the cable that came with it was a crossover.

now since you changed out the router did you keep the original cable supplied with the modem to plug into the pc?

Might try logging into your routers GUI through a web browser, and releasing the IP address from the interface. After doing so, connect your modem directly to your NIC, and boot up. You may also want to release your IP address from your computer

start-run-cmd
ipconfig /release

Turn PC off, plug in modem to Network card, turn computer on.

If it is a DSL modem, it may need to be set up to work with a single PC. I had to call bellsouth once when a modem directly connected to a PC by ethernet would work, but adding a correctly configured router for the wireless capability would not. It turned out to be a setting in the modem itself. After the setting was changed the router worked but the direct connection would not.
