Yes, I did it. Yes, I'm a moron. Yes, I'm embarassed as heck. And yes, I'm pissed.

In the midst of burning the midnight oil, I accidentily slashed my laptop's LCD (3/4 of a cm.) with an all-american Sharpie.

Now, I don't care much for the laptop (corporate issue), but its bothering the crap out of me when I work.

Any ideas on how to safely remove it?

Spray it with hairspray then rub it down with a soapy rag, I've heard that works against permanent markers.

i think your screwed either way, your going to need something harsh to get it off, which will also probably take off your anti-glare coating on the LCD. try to stay away from any cleaner that uses ammonia.

Hairspray sounds like it has a lot of chemicals... anything harmful in there?

I know that isopropyl rubbing alcohol is great at getting rid of "permanent" marker - but it too will probably tear away at any anti-glare coatings on the screen.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It worked! http://www.appletechs.com/archives/00000088.html

I just removed 99% of the mark, but just gently rubbing it away with my finger nail.

Basically, I rubbed (not scratched) the area with my nail a minute at a time. In between each "rubbing session" (hehe), I used a damp paper towel and wiped the area. With each wipe, little by little the sharpie mark disappeared.

I'm so frigging relieved right now.

THANKS to everyone who replied!
