I lost all my control panel, add/remove data. I noticed it after running Mcafee quickclean to remove Norton systemworks.

I could not repair it thru the repair console so I tried to re-install windows 2000 directly over my previous 2000 installation.

I get this message:

"MS 2000 has detected software that is not completely installed on your computer...setup cannot continue."

To finish:

1. quit setup
2. log off.
3. After loggoff, program will start, allow it to complete...
4. Re-start 2000 setup.

The program in question never finishes installing, and when I restart the windows 2000 installation I get that same message.

Thing is I dunno which program is not completely installed.

How do I reinnstall Windows 2000 pro or Is there another way to repair it.

Dan

have you tried booting from the CD and running setup?
sounds like you're running setup while in Windows

Good question! Can I boot from a floppy, delete the WINNT, Program Files, Documents and Settings folder, then do a fresh/clean install? I used to do something similar with Win98.

You can reinstal Windows2k, but it would cost you all of you rinfo on ya hd... Reformatting is always a valid option.

Yea,

I was trying to run set up while in windows. I'll try booting from the CD....or the 4 set boot disks.

I started to boot from the floppy set but it takes forever to load. Tried from the CD but it booted from my C hard drive. Guess I need to make some CMOS changes.

VicodiN:

How will reinstalling waste my HD? I upgraded my HD from Windows 98SE....2000 pro does not save your old OS so you can't go back.

Any more ideas?

Thanks,

Dan

Make a windows 98 startup floppy. Put Format.com or its already on there. I honestly forget! Then type format C: /q

Reinstall windows 2000 thats what we loving refer to as the microsoft fix! Call there support and thats what they'll tell you to do!

I guess no one her uses Windows 2000 pro anymore.

I booted from the 4 disk boot set,

setup gave me the choice of:

Repairing or replacing my existing Windows 2000 pro setup.

I repaired which was really more of a reinstall I guess because I had to update everything. My programs and data are intact (I made a backup before)

Gotta be careful around here.

Put in a Windows 98 disk and format windows 2000????? yea, right.
