How do I read through a sealed envelope

I wanted to respond to this question on this site: http://www.fluther.com/disc/40...ealed-envelope-tricks/ but didn't want to register so I'm just going to post the answer to that question here.

It's really simple, just get a powerful flash light (I prefer LED ones that have like 5 LEDs), put it under the letter you're trying to read and presto. Using natural light or indoor lighting is generally not enough, you actually have to press the mail against the flash light so the focused beam is pushing through, revealing the text.

Steam it open, glue it shut. Viola. You have just read an envelope.

Seriously, putting an envelope to a bright light is one of the oldest methods of reading it. I can't count the number of times I have seen Lucy from "I love Lucy" Read an envelope (or try to) using that method. The steam method comes in second.

Upside down can of computer duster air works wonders in making the envelope transparent. Then it evaporates, leaving no traces.

That's why important stuff is sent in security envelopes.

That's the best part, it works on them too. Though I need to test this more, the envelope I tested it on was a security envelope.

sweet! is this method equally effective on unopened e-mail?

I'm just going to assume this is a serious question and just say yes it will work on unopened mail, including those that are in "security" envelopes.
