How do I quit my job?

I've had a job for the past year, and I'm wanting to quit. There are a lot of reasons: boss left, left to work on a large website all by myself until they hire someone (which will take a while), underpaid, etc.

Should I just type out my 2 weeks notice with the reasons for leaving and slap it on my boss's desk?

I've never quit a job before, so I'm not sure of the proper way of quitting without burning bridges. If it matters, I'm a student worker.

You don't really need to give reasons. Just say you are leaving and your end date (which should be >= today)

Keep it simple, just write a note indicating your last day, nothing else. No need to burn bridges or leave with hard feelings.

Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name:

Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am leaving my position with XYZ company on September 15.

Thank you for the opportunities you have provided me during my time with the company. If I can be of any assistance during this transition, please let me know.

How long should I give them before I leave? I'm not really doing anything at work, and I'd just sit around for another 2 weeks.

This is a bad time for them because they just lost their webmaster, but if they are going to give me BS about getting a raise, I'm going to leave. The remnants of the project they want me to do are way over my head for a student worker like me especially for what they are paying me.

Use one of the short examples already posted. Don't write anything about why you are leaving. Give two weeks notice.

Two weeks is standard. They might just walk you out the door anyway. Worse case, you sit around for two weeks neffing.

No doubt. Sneak in a bottle of vodka too while you're at it.

No, this is a student worker job where I made $5.85. I can make the same amount twiddling my thumbs at home ;). It was good experience and will help make my resume look better. I'll be fine without a job until I graduate college since my parents take care of most of the expenses and I have a lot in savings.

I do plan on getting a job once fall semester starts back up.

Since that is the case I would say:
Fuck you, Fuck you, Fuck you.... You're cool... and Fuck you, I'm out.

as previously mentioned

A job where you make $5.85 makes your resume look better? Shens!

Yep, there's a difference between a $5.85 paying job working fast-food compared to a student worked position doing web design.

Best way to do it is to show up every day and do nothing until you get fired for it. Then post on ATOT and let us know how long they keep you before officially firing you.

Write a nice letter thanking them for the oppurtunity. Tell them you learned a lot, maybe it was a difficult decision, you are prepared to help the transition, and wish them well.

I've only quit one job and that's basically what my letter had. If you want to keep the bridges in good condition, personally hand the letter to your boss, maybe have a sit down. Unfortunately, this would lead to an awkward conversation, requiring you to explain some things. That's why I dropped my letter off and hauled ass...

I say you walk in one day without wearing pants. When they question you, pretend nothing is wrong. I think the problem will resolve itself.
