How do I quit my job?

Was hired, been working there for two days. Got to know a few people and they are all really nice, and I'm starting to know my way around. But another job opened and I have already been hired. I'm on the schedule for next week (at current job) but I'll have to quit on Monday. What can I say to let them know? Also should I mention when I should pick up my check? I feel bad for letting them down but I cant pass up this other job. Its not like I can put in a two weeks notice either.

Any suggestions?

just let them know you had a different job lined up in advance, and so you wont be able to work at your present job anymore. or you could just say "something came up"

honestly only being there 2 days you'll more than likely be forgotten in a month so i wouldn't worry about it, just let them know ASAP so they can get it covered.

I think you have to give them a 2 weeks notice. Just start your new job 2 weeks later and tell your current employer ASAP that you're quitting.

he's only worked there for 2 days. It's not like he's going to burn any bridges, he hasn't built them yet. Just call them up and say you quit.

Ok, I dont think I'm going to be so blunt as to say "I quit" though. I was looking for more suggestons on how I should break it to them.

Tell that you are gonna take up a career as an Ultimate Fighter because you like to kick ass. If your manager gets an attitude with you then just deliver a jump kick to his face.

just tell them that you don't think that it's the job for you and your not looking to waste any more of there time or youre own. it's 2 days no need to get to worked up about it, i doubt they will care much they have little if anything invested in you yet.

Be honest with them and say you have another job. If at all possible try and leave on good terms. You don't want to "burn" your bridges because one day you may have to walk back.

I have never got an attitude when an employee tells me they have another job - especially if they can make more money.

The way you present "yourself" is the major key. :)

a guy where i worked, worked for 2 days, and just dissappeared. It's not a big deal, just say you're quitting. No biggie. Obviously don't put it down as work expirience [unless you have too] ;) but just cut it off. Be honest, they'll appreciate it.

btw: we make fun of the guy who left, since he quit without telling anyone, never picked up his check, yet still comes by every now and then asking about jobs... just not at where we work... crazy guy...

If you work where I do and you're the guy we hired to take over for the night shifts I'm so gonna kick your a$$... :D

Yeah, just tell them ASAP so they can get the shifts covered. Where I work now, it's a damn revolving door there, people quit after their first day. Best thing to do is just be upfront and let them know.

If you got hired by a human resources department, I wouldn't think twice of quiting asap. Im sure they have 100 on stand by waiting for the job. All it takes is a phone call.

Tell them you were really a CIA agent sent to crack a big terrorist plot, but now the terrorists have discovered you and you're being reassigned to Afghanistan.

you've only been there two days... I don't see what the big deal is. just be honest and direct. you're current boss will understand, and it's better than making up lies or pulling a no-show.
