how do I play DVD VOB files with subtitles from SRT file?

Anyone know of a player which allows you to play VOB files and add a SRT file to include subtitles (and hopefully be able to shift the subtitles time sequence on the fly) ???

Ok, how does this work though?

Here's what I tried...

1. I goto File -> Open Disc
2. click on the File tab
3. I browse for some VTS_01_1.VOB file (I can't seem to open the whole disc like a directory, and the special 'Open Directory" option under VLC has no subtitles option
4. check the 'Use a subtitles file' box
5. browse for the srt file
6. click OK

the video plays but when I expect subtitles to show nothing happens. No subtitles

looking in the SRT file I confirmed the first subtitles should show up in like 30 seconds but nothing shows up

so would you use this thing ?

I have a DVD on my file system (bunch of VOB files, some IFO files...) and the SRT files for english subtitles... I have tried some other bizarre things but I cant get the subtitles to show up
