How do I play a DVD on my computer?

I have an NEC ND-3500A DVD player, but I can't seem to play any DVD's with it on my computer. I got the drive OEM from ZipZoomFly a while back, so no software came with it (or, if it did, I can't find it).

How do I play DVD's on my computer? I'd ideally like a free solution.

some DVD's have software on them that will install so you can watch DVD's, Power DVD is one of the best programs to play DVD's with though I think WIN DVD is another one, and I think the ones that come on some DVD's say InterVideo or something like that, might say on the DVD case.

I think it will only play it if you have a DVD decoding software already installed. I think there are free codec's to play them but you should have to download them first.
