How do I pause a gif?

Try pressing (KEEP PRESSING THE MOUSE BUTTON ALL THE TIME) the close (X) button, in the top right hand corner. Move the mouse cursor elsewhere, before RELEASING mouse button.

The above works fine for me, using google chrome.

It used to be that you could hit Escape to pause a GIF, but that feature seems to have gone away, presumably because of reasons.


Another option, for reference:
Irfanview has the ability to extract individual frames. Options --> Extract All Frames

I was just looking this up the other day. Another useful feature disappears from firefox

It looks like you now have to use an add-on to stop animations in FF. http://techlogon.com/2013/03/22/fir...sc-key-ability-to-stop-animated-gifs-playing/

Edit: It looks like there are more stop animation add-ons than the one mentioned above.

I'm running the latest SeaMonkey and hitting escape stops all animated images on the page.
