<< steps:
1) Sand it at least to rough up the surface.
2) Clean surface
3) Primer(i used spray primer), in small, light coats until you get a nice even coat... Let dry for at least 4 hours.
4) Wet Sand primer for smooth finish(I start with 400, then 600, then 1500).
5) Wash surface off of any dust/etc( I use a garden hose).
6) Start spraying paint, in nice, light coats again. Do it multiple times. Do not build up the paint too thicky on any one coat.
7) let dry minimum of 24 hours
8) Wet sand(optional). I used 1500.
9) Spray Rustoleum Clear coat on, again in light and thin coats. Build up to nice, thick clear coat. Let dry at least 12 hours.

10) Optional, but after a few weeks you can give your clear coat a nice wax layer to further protect it and to help rub out any unsmooth parts.

This is not a conclusive guide. Some steps can be skipped if you don't have the time or desire for its effect.

OOH, crap, I forgot to add this earlier... You can let your case airdry after washing the dust/etc off, but I highly suggest wiping the painted surfaces with a tac rag(doesn't leave dust/lint, and will keep water from spotting up on it).

1. Built your self a dust free zone, and uses and air filter to clean the dust in the zone. (plastic drop sheets at the local hardware store will do)

2. Wash your case with soap. (try to get all greases off the surface)

3. Prime the case in the dust free zone. (let the primer dry)

4. Aplly the paint on the case from top to bottom in thin coats...as many coats as it take to to have a enven surface. (let the paint dry beforapply consecutive coats, and make sure not to have drip or run)

5. Aplly as many clear/glossy coats as you want/needed.

I would have it sand blasted and then powder coated, if you use spray paint, or a latex it will chip and look like crap.

I got some quality spraypaint, took my case outside, gave it a careful once over, let it dry and the next day baam!, I got myself a beautiful looking case. Don't get the cheap stuff though or it WILL chip.

Most auto body repair shops will do sandblasting and powder coating of misc. items for a moderatly fair price.
