I'm a newbie and was wondering how I could overclock my video card. Also, what other equipment do I need in order to do this?

Simply open the Windows Registry Editor by typing "regedit" in the Run Menu of Windows. Then open the following directory: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global" Right click on the "Global" directory and create a new key titled "NVTweak." Next, right-click on the NVTweak key and create a new dword value named "Coolbits." Adjust the value of Coolbits to "3" by double clicking on it and entering "3" in the value data field.

After a quick Windows restart go to the "Additional Properties" section of your display settings. Click on the "Clock Frequencies" tab and checkmark the "Allow clock frequency adjustments" setting. After that, you're ready to begin overclocking your card!

Hey plex24, I'm worried about frying my card. Should I overclock my card without additional cooling?

You should be able to overclock at least 10% without any additinal cooling but if u want to do a serious overclocking get ur self a crystal orb cooler. or if you two pci slots empty put 80mm fan below the heatsink. or betteryet get ur self a cardcooler with two fans blowing on top which will cool ur whole system.

So what if I want to overclock the GPU and the memory clock? Do I need fans for the memory too? And if I do want to get this crystal orb cooler, how would I install it? Do I install it over the current fan on the card or take it out and install the crystal orb cooler? Thanks for your help plex.

You do have to remove the stock heatsink if U want to install the crystal orb. It's pretty simple process but it will avoid ur warranty. All u do is remove the plastic tab that holds HSF. Squeeze the plastic holder on the other side of the hsf and it should pop out. Then gently twist the HSF and it shoud come off. Then remove the residual stuff from GPU and the putn some artic silver II on GPU and put the plastic clip that came with the crystal orb. If u don't wnat to void warranty go to this site http://www.thecardcooler.com/ they have whole bunch of cooling stuff.

Could you be a little more bit detailed Plex? I see a fan, then like two screws (one on each side), then the blue covering ( I assume that's the heatsink) and then blue coverings on the RAM. I should send you a picture.

Look at the back of the video card, there should be a two piece of black plastic sticks out. Squeeze the two outeredge of the plastic and it should move in. then remove the plastic from the other side. Next step is to gently turn the heatsink and remove it. do not remove the ram heat sink since they are glued with epoxy
