how do i mute the mic in vista

im dieing here, i here my mic all day, i hear the mouse move, my types and all the sound in my dorm room. i really need to figure out how to mute the mic so i sont hear it in my head phones. does anyone know how to do it??
i knew how to do it in xp but i dont know how to mute the mic in vista.

bump. i can hear the mic in my headphones its kinda soft but enough to want it gone

There is a chance you can fix your problem by right-clicking on the sound icon in the system tray and select Playback Devices (or alternatively, go to Control Panel and select Sounds). Once in the Sounds window, double-click the Speakers options, then go to the Levels tab, and choose what ya want.

I so wish I didn't have to go though at minimum 4 clicks just to get to what I used to be able to get to with 2 clicks. I wish you could optionally add these extra mixer levels to your main mixer. I want my line in on my mixer damn it!!
