I'm wondering how to mute sound for an application on xp. I know in win 7 you can do it. My soundcard software doesn't seem to support application specific settings so don't know if there is a third party program that can do it or a windows setting that can do it.

Windows XP does not have application-specific volume control; this feature was added in Windows Vista. I'm not aware of any third-party software to do it.

The application itself may have the option to mute whatever sounds it makes. Look under its Options, or its Preferences section on its menu.

Try this app

http://www.indievolume.com/

It has a trial (not sure what the restrictions on trial are)
If it works and you like it, cost is $24.95 for a lifetime
license with full upgrades to newer versions.
