How do I make my video editing faster?

I find rendering can really depend what codec you're using too. Maybe experiment with different codecs. Don't download any special ones though, you still want to use a built in codec so that most people will be able to view the video. I have not done any video editing in a long time but I recall DivX and Xvid were big, not sure what's popular now. Mkv and MP4 seems to be more widely used now. The only thing is I find video editing programs can be really flaky at times when you start messing with codecs, so your mileage may vary.

See if you can run multiple rendering jobs at the same time, this should use the unused cpu cores

I don't know about Sony Vegas, but Adobe Premiere Pro supports CUDA which increases rendering speed immensely using a compatible NVIDIA graphics card, and also results in a bit better quality video.

Hello everyone. Basically. What do I need to upgrade for faster rendering all the the video editing jazz? Do I need more RAM? Sorry I'm really newbie when it comes to pc/laptop knowledge

Here's my MSI Laptop (NOT PC)

GPU - GTX 770M
CPU - i7 4800MQ @ 2.7GHz
RAM - 16GB
SSD - Samsung 250GB
OS - Windows 8

So a 10 minute video takes around 1 hour to render, that's insane

What rendering template are you using ?

For what it is worth, it is a laptop, with a low end CPU, so don't expect desktop performance.
This laptop wasn't made to be a speed demon, and, as you can see by the charts.

Get yourself a desktop with 16GB, and a i7-4930K (or better) if you want faster performance.

My laptop is similar and renders much faster, I think it was around 1:1 WITH Quick Sync enabled, and a little slower using CUDA. I'm not using Vegas though, maybe Cyberlink? Anyway, I have no idea about Vegas, but does it support Quick Sync or CUDA? And/Or have you enabled either of them?

I use vegas pro 12 on my desktop machine and it renders faster with Radeon's but I c the OP is using a laptop with a mobile NV card so i'm not sure how you can speed it up since you cannot replace the gpu and add a faster one.
