How do I make an international call?

Going to London over New Years and I need to call the Savoy to ask some questions...

Their number is +44 (0)20 7836 4343 and apparently I can't just dial it that way.

Maybe this is a dumb question lol but I've never had to do this 🙂

I'm using an AT&T Wireless cell BTW...

Thanks guys.

The "+" is the universal international dialling code on GSM, so should work on any GSM carrier, anywhere in the world.

When ringing the UK from abroad, you omit the "0" from the area code (which is the reason why it is given in parentheses).

I'm traveling abroad also

I have an EKIT european sim card from raileurope to make calls while outside of USA. It provides you with a US# and also a global # with detailed instructions on how to make those calls.

Because a commercial establishment wouldn't want their phone number out in the wild?

No kidding, why not just put a big freaking sign outside the door?

Idiots....

do realise international rates are atrocious on cellphones. Go buy a calling card.

There are different cards, some are good, some are very bad.

I do call to Lithuania 3-4 times weekly and I use 3377 $5 or $10 card. With $10 card, I can talk ~4 hours(~240 minutes) - that's to land line/home phone. To cell phone x3 less time I could talk. I've called to UK once with that card, I think, it was ~900 minutes - they say, how much $ left on card and after dialing code+number, they say, how long I can talk.

of course your mileage will vary. But I have yet to run into a card that is as expensive as mobile LD from your carrier.

Had to call a vendor in the UK from work one day and had some trouble too. Skip the (0) and you'll be good to go.

for calling, why not make up a skype account and use the 1 free phone call they give you? worked for me when i called home (UK) from vancouver
