how do i make a virtual cd, so i don't need discs to run my games

hi, i'm trying to find an emulation program which will allow me to make an image on my hard drive of a game disc, and then allow me to play it from there. i have really no idea how this is done, or anything. i'd appreciate any advice, and how to do it, and any programs that i could use. thank you.
 
many games now refuse to run if they detect CD emulation software installed.

you won't find much info here since the usual use of this is to pirate games and AT does not allow warez threads.
 
The most popular tools for making images are Alcohol 120%, CloneCD/DVD, IsoBuster... and possibly a few others, but I haven't tried them.

As far as mounting your homemade images, use Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools.

I'll let you google them.

As for the poster above me, making your own backups is not illegal, and there's no way for him to make images if he doesn't have the CDs/DVDs to make them from. And that's what he's asking about right?

And yes, many newer games come with protection that will prevent you from using such programs for mounting.
 
Also, to save HDD space, there's a way to make a mini-image that's very small but does the same thing. You'll have to google it to find out.

Personally, I think using a no cd modified exe is the better way to go; there seems to be one available for almost any game and patch version.
 
Now see, I personally use the programs to make images of my Playstation games, which I then play on an emulator... I feel this is better than the PSX (which I also own obviously) because loading time is significantly decreased, I can speed up the game if I want, and it looks better.

Also, before burning a DVD I make (like home videos) I mount it to see how it plays out on the PC first.
