How do I know if my device is running at USB 2.0?

The connectors are the same but 'supposedly', the ones rated for USB 2 use higher quality wires. I've never had problems using regular USB cables with USB 2 devices, however.

Is there a way to find out if my device (in this case, it's a printer) is running at USB 2.0 speed in Windows XP?

in the case of the external usb 2.0 hardrive i have if i connect to usb 1.1 Win Xp pops up a warning that a high speed device is running at low speed.
the cable that came with the drive shows no difference in transfer speeds than any of the cables that came with the usb 1.1 devices that i have.
