how do i know cd rom speed?

i have old cd rom, but dont' know what x it is.
is there a program or something?

If you give us any of make/model/year/'fcc id' we can probably look it up or give you a good guess.

You could also run a benchmark program on it. See what the transfer rate is and that'll give you a rough idea what "x" it is (150k/sec per x......ie: 1x = 150k/sec 2x=300k/sec)

I always just go to the Manufacturer's web page and look up the "model number"
