I'm Androidtarded. I tried putting it in my downloads folder but it doesnt even show up in the list when I actually go to the Downloads folder on the phone.

How do I install an apk outside of the Market?

Install a File Manager or Astro file manager from the Market. Open the program that you just installed. Go to Downloads folder, and APK should be there.

If you are doing this the first time, you are going to get a warning that you cannot install the app. What you need to do is go into settings, security at the bottom, and check "Unknown Sources". After this, you you will be able to install any apk you want!

This. You can also use ES File Explorer which is an awesome free app to browse to it.
