How do I initialize a hard drive in Windows?

I read where someone was saying this is what you need to do when you add a new hard drive if it is being recognized in BIOS, some tell me how to do it.

start->control panel->admin tools->computer management->storage->disk management
You can set partitions here.

Th drive shows up in Disk Management but I can only make it a dynamic disk for some reason, not format or anything?

Nice way to bring back the 90's... Post in the right forum next time.

Blow me monkey boy.

For those who are interested, if you go to disk management & still cannot figure it out....

click on View>Top>Disk List>this should display the drive for you>then right click the drive & set it to Dynamic>right click it again & create a new volume>this will initiate the new volume wizard and from there it should be easy enough from there.

I use graphical view on bottom and there should be something there that says "unallocated space" on your new hard drive. You can right click there and it's pretty cut and dry.

Otherwise I would go back to the startup disk using fdisk =)

Seriouslt, quit doing this to people. I have been here long enough to read multiple threads where all you contribute is your forum police garbage. Get a life. If you can't answer the question, GTFO!!!

"General Hardware . ." HDD sounds very general hardware to me! I never post or read to the other specific forums because I like diversity and versatilty. Including this kind of stuff . . .

I'm with this guy. I don't see a "Hard Drive" forum over there, maybe I don't have the same list as n0cmonkey? Either way, monkey both you and Nik can, if you don't have anything to actually CONTRIBUTE to a thread, keep out of it.

Wow what a flame war I walked into by clicking on this thread. The simple truth is he is right, this is the wrong forum.

This is really an OS or Software question (since the hard drive is working fine), or Technical Support (since he is looking for help). However, asking for help with setting up a hard drive is close enough to a "hardware" question that I probably wouldn't bitch someone out for posting in GH. But it is in the wrong forum.

When someone tells you you're posting in the wrong forum (even if they didn't 'contribute' anything else to the thread), picking a fight with them is not good practice (especially if they are an Elite member, but it doesn't really matter). I've done the same thing sometimes -- not because I don't have a "life", or I'm on some sort of power trip, but because if everyone posts in the right place, the forums are a lot easier to use.

Noc got his Elite tag by posting "Wrong forum" in every post for 3 months straight.....

Actually, he is a *bsd bigot, and should be drawn and quartered for his supposed superior os

Exactly why I tol him to STFU. Sorry, but some people don't deserve the respect you guys are trying to pass along.

It's an online forum. PUt the measuring tape away.

It doesn't matter if your elite, plat, diamond, gold, or a guest. I think the entire business is garbage. Post count +1

We are all here to help out so everyone shut-up and help the OP 🙂

As for his question it looks like it has already been asnwered but another options is:

Right Click "My Computer"> Manage > Disk Management (found under the storage tab)

Hopefully that's all the info you need.
