How do I increase the wifi range of my notebook? [Acer s3 391]

I recently purchased an Acer s3 391 notebook off of someone used for $200.

The internet only works when I'm very close(~4 meters) to the router, versus my LG G2 smartphone which works perfectly when I'm farther + in a different room.

Is there a way to make my notebook have the same/better wifi strength than my smartphone? I've seen some products online, but I've heard conflicting reviews of products such as usb wifi boosters, plus the wifi boosters I've seen look too bulky and excessive to set up--especially for travel.

Power saving mode takes power away from display and makes it more available to your WiFi. I would seriously consider a WiFi extender. There are good ones and they do help.

Do you suggest one in particular?

I would go with a good name brand, i.e., Netgear, D-Link, Cisco, Linksys. My personal preference is Netgear because that is what my router is.

There may be some wifi power saving settings or even some power settings for the adapter.

On the web, people seem to have solved the problem with a driver update.

Sounds like a driver problem.

CorkyG: only works within 4 meters of the router is not an "I need a wifi extender" type of issue.
