I've tried to clone a new hard drive with XP. I can't get it to work. When it almost gets into Windows I get a message something about "Windows cannot validate the registration" or something.
We use an Open Lisence CD Key, so we don't have to activate XP when we install it. But if we can't image it, we're screwed.
If anyone knows anything about imaging XP, let me know. We need to make some Ghost files here at work.
Is there some kind of "sysprep" tool I need to use?
Thanks
[edit] btw, I did check out technet and they just talk about using sysprep so you'll have "unique" SID's. I know from experience you don't "have" to run sysprep for the clone process to work. For purposes of cloning to a new hard drive and formatting the old one (using the same computer), sysprep is not necessary. My question is.. is sysprep "necessary" in order to even clone at all now? or, is there something else I'm missing? [/edit]
