What is a list of music genre's that is broad enough to organize most songs, but not be so broad that I have folders with maybe 3 songs.

So far I have this under \MP3

\Alternative
\Dance
\Other
\Punk
\R & B, Soft & Slow
\Rap
\Rock & Roll, Hard & Metal
\Techno

I Don't want to have more than 1 subfolder under \MP3.

Think this is alright? Right now I'm sorting all my music and fixing all my ID(1/2) tags.

What the heck do you clasify Alanis Morissette as?

To really answer your question I'd need to see your MP3 collection.

Your categories seem pretty good. I'm assuming you don't have any country, jazz, blues, folk, or classical in your collection, or that you'll put them in '\other'

I'd probably put Alanis in "Alternative". Even though she has a produced-mainstream hard rock sound, I'd put most of the hard-guitar rock from the mid-90s in the alternative section.

I feel your pain right now. I went through hell databasing my 2000 records, cds, and cassettes trying to figure out stuff like, 'where the hell do I put Tom Waits? Where should Captain Beefheart go? What about Fishbone?'

I agree most of the songs in "Techno" are probably not even close to Techno.. probably Trance or House because they are the most common.. but please at least change the category to Electronic..

BTW in case you have any Prodigy you might want to stick that in Metal.. because I found out the other day that they consider themselves Metal and not Electronic.. but I still say they are Electronic..
