how do I go about hiring "day laborers"?

I was just about to post this.. I've never seen a group of "workers" in front of Lowes of Home Depot anywhere in the KC Metro area. :hmm:

Ive seen in the in SF Bay Area when ive visted family. I found it funny that they allow it. I am curious now if its an ordinace/law thing or if it just doesnt happen for some odd reason.

Day laborers for doing really simple unskilled labor like digging a hole or demolition, but I wouldn't trust them with something like putting up drywall.

I would not hire like that for work that requries good skills. i.e. drywall, tiling, etc...

But for demo work I picked up some people. Offered it to some HS kids but got turned down so I drove to a place I see people hang out and got some there.
Never did it before but just said I need 3 people to do demo, I will provide lunch. I got 4 and did not mind as it was a big job. But had several others running from across the street. They were not happy at those that got in my truck.

Price depends on the area. Here in N.VA its $10 a hour. And yes HS kids turned down tearing shit up with no jail, free lunch, and $10 a hr. I even tried craigslist and most wanted $20-25 a hr. Sorry; but $20 a hour for demo work is to much.
