How do I give money at wedding?

I have a wedding to go to. She's an old friend of mine. I was thinking I will just write a check as a wedding gift. But I have never really been to a wedding, and have no clue how to give this. Do I just put it in an envelope? Is there a place where I can put this envelope at the wedding?

cash would be better, that way they can have it on hand and not have to fool with cashing a check. just buy a card and stick it in there.

usually there is a box/person at the front who will accept gifts and money.

I would put it between a card however..
