How do I get that "musty" smell out of my room?

I've had this problem for awhile. Now, I know what you're thinking...I don't clean myself or my room enough, etc, etc...

1. I vaccuum at least once every two weeks (Should I do it more?)
2. I change the sheets on my bed once every two weeks (should I do it more?)
3. I do my laundry completely about once a week.
4. I open my curtains and let the sun shine in and frequently open up my window to air it out.
5. I'll spray a little air freshener every once in a while.
6. I dust once every two weeks or so, should I do this more?

Ummm...I think that's it. FYI, this is a serious post and I would appreciate any real feedback and not any wise cracks. Has anyone else had this problem and what things have you tried? Thanks!!!🙂🙂🙂

Thanks everyone, keep it coming. If I were to get the carpet steamcleaned how much would that cost do you think?

Wouldn't spraying a bottle of Febreze give me a mean headache for weeks after inhaling that stuff?

Must be the dead cat under the bed or decomposing food on your plates, j/k. If you find out tell me my wife's brother is the same way when you go over to her mom's and go near his room all you smell is this funk.

No Gopunk, I don't shower. Aha, that is it! You fixed me!

No really, I shower at least once a day normally at night before going to bed and I'm not in my room all that much during the day.

well the dehumidifyer would... dehumidify your room, which would probably reduce any mold, bacteria growing in your room, causing the smell.

Get some FEBREEZE...it is an odor remover. i was reading Maxim magazine (which is a great mag) and was reading about how drug dealers use it when transporting drugs. I figure that if it is good enough for Drug Trafficers, then it is good enough for me.

Actually works damn good too

How much are those dehumidifiers?

Sorry for all the questions, I mean...I consider myself a pretty clean, hygenic person so it bugs me. Maybe it's all in my head.

I think the Dehumidifier will only remove "warm air" and bring some moisture; might not help much.

How old is the carpet ? If it hasn't been cleaned in many years, mybe some type of fungus is underneath ?

If you have it cleaned, don't use any type of water based cleaning process; it'll kill the wood floor beneath it; only use a dry chemical process.

When was the last time the room was painted ? If more than 3 - 5 years ago, put on 2 coats of paint and probably buy new carpet, too. When carpet is up, take a good look at the floor to see if any damages, mildew, etc.

😀

dehumidifiers= takes water OUT of air (note the DE in DEhumidifier) 😛 and last semester i moved into a room that was previously occupied by a very very very very smelly person. as in no one lived there for a semester and the nasty bo was still stinking up and down the hall. i busted it with arm and hammer's pet deoderizer for carpets. can be found at a local supermarket or wherever you can get cleaning supplies i would assume.

Thanks Zemel. It probably is the carpet. It seems worn out and might have some mildew or something built up in it. How much do you think it would be to replace a whole 2 bed apartment with a decent size living room? Can it be done in sections? I dont want to move all my furniture out of the entire place if you know what I mean. Ballpark figure here...😀

shampoo your carpet once every 1/2 year or 1 year.

dehumidiers can make you uncomfortable if you spend much time in your room😛

vacumn once a week

Musty smell huh? Well, start by cleaning up after yourself after whacking off 😀

just j/k...seriously, Febreze is the ultimate smell remover, followed by a quick steam cleaning (get you a Rug Doctor from your local supermarket or something and you're good to go...)and an open box of Arm+Hammer baking soda...close windows/door and leave for a bit...come back later and enjoy your funk-free room...
