I left without logging out of XP and I guess my younger brother I take care of quickly got on under my name. I come home and I can't run any programs by double clicking.. not on shortcut, Start-Run, .exe, .com, .scr, .txt, .pdf; nothing. "All Programs" on the Start Menu actually freezes when you try to access it. The only way I can run something is if I open Task Manager and start/run a new task. Funny thing is, if I use the browse... in Create New Task and right click on any file and select open, it will work.

I'm really confused because I don't see anything suspicious in HiJackThis or Autoruns; and Avira, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware haven't found anything.

Everything works fine in Safe mode tho. :-(

Did he take a screenshot, set it as your background, and hide all your desktop items? So you're really just clicking on a picture and not the actual icons.

HAHA! Good one Crusty but no. After clicking on any file or shortcut, you get a Windows message saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." And this is happening on all accounts not just mine. It doesnt happen under Safe Mode however.

so after i scanned for the last time with bitdefender under Linux.. i went back to Windows and unistalled aviraand comodo firewall.. and it started working as normal.
