How Do I get rid of the 'Delete Block' in Word 2000?? Any idea?

I have MS Office Pro 2000 running on a Win 98 machine. In Word 2000, I'll highlight a word or sentence I want to delete and then press the delete key. But it won't delete whatever it is I?m trying to get rid of. When I do this, in the lower left of MS word in the toolbar, it asks me

'Delete Block? No (Yes)'

So I have to press the Y key so it will then delete it. How can I prevent this from happening every time I want to use the delete key? Any idea?
